Speaking of Great Audiences...

My friend Kathy sent me this video and asked if our Round Rock audience was this attentive?

Video Oh Yeah Day 2011 Around The World

Oh Yeah Day LogoDo you remember the Oh Yeah Day Celebration last August?  Bands and fans around the world, including the Tons Of Fun Jam, participated in the very first Oh Yeah Day.  Each group that participated was asked to send in a video of the audience singing "Oh Yeah". It took a while for everyone to get their videos in, but this evening there was an email from Tamás Ittzés, who came up with the concept, that the final video summary was ready.

Anyone who has ever planned a show knows that the two most important things are to have a good opening and a strong ending.  So in a video of audiences around the world singing "Oh Yeah", where do you thing the strong finish came from? That's right -- Round Rock, Texas, USA and you, the Tons Of Fun Jam audience!

Top 10 Tips For Playing In A Band

I ran across this link (http://www.gmarts.org/index.php?go=340) while browsing around the internet.  It brings up a lot of thoughts that every working (or want to be working) musician should at least consider.

Christmas Tunes

Several jammers have asked for sheet music for the Dixieland Christmas Party next week.  I have put together books for each instrument that have 59 Christmas tunes.  I will not have time (nor money) to print these in time for the party next week, but if you need sheet music for the Christmas tunes, you can download these and print them yourself.

To download the books, you must go to this link: http://jimivyco.tmdhosting410.com/texashotjazz

This is a temporary link to the new TexasHotJazz website.  The music is not available on the current website.

When you get to the new website,

1) Click on "Member Login" on the top menu

2) Go to the link at the bottom that says "Register".  You must register before you can access the files.

3) After you are registered, you will see a "Member's Menu" on the left.  Click on "Fakebooks".

4) Click on "Tons Of Fun Christmas Jam Book".

5) Choose the correct book for your instrument and click the "Download" button.

The books are in PDF format so just about any computer will be able to read and print them.  They are set up to print on both sides of the page (duplex printing).

By the way, I realize that some of you that I met at the New Orleans Jazz Camp do not live anywhere near Austin ,Texas.  You are welcome to download and use any of the books.  My intention is to use this material to get more musicians involved in Dixieland jazz.  That is why I make these available free of charge.  You are welcome to pass them on to others, just keep them free of charge.

Hope to see you jammin' sometime in the near future!

Ramblings...

2011 is well along it's way and I find that I have been neglecting my editorial duties here on Texas Hot Jazz.  Several articles are in the pipeline - just have make some time to sit down and write.

First, I have had a number of inquires from around the country about the Tons Of Fun First Thursday Jam.  It seems that there are many musicians who would like to see local dixieland jam sessions in their own hometowns.  They want to know how we were able to create such a successful jam session here in Central Texas.  So, look for an article or two that will lay out why and how the Tons Of Fun Jam came into being and some of the reasons the I believe it has become such a successful event each month.
