Mary Baker will be singing at Star Co. this Thursday 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Look forward to seeing you there!

The August Tons Of Fun Jam falls on Louis Armstrong’s 110th birthday. One of the most memorable evenings I remember was when I heard Louis and his All Stars perform when I was still in high school. That evening had a lot to do with my decision to become a musician.
There is a movement afoot to have August 4th declared as “International Oh Yeah Day” in honor of Louis. The name “Oh Yeah Day” comes, of course, from the famous tag that Louie added to so many of his performances.
“The goal of the Oh Yeah movement is to make an international celebration of Classic Jazz on Louis Armstrong's birthday, the 4th of August. First step is to start the events going in 2011 then the second step will be to get 100,000 supporters for Oh Yeah Day thus it would have the chance to be officially recognized by the UN as Oh Yeah Day, World Day of Classic Jazz.”
You can support this by visiting http://www.ohyeahday.com/ and filling in a short form.
The TOF Jam will be one of many programs taking place around the world on “Oh Yeah Day”. All of them will feature Louie’s signature tag:

So show up on Thursday, Aug. 4th. Bring your white handkerchiefs and be ready to sing a few “Oh Yeahs” to let Louie know we miss him!
Oh yeah, someone counted over 90 folks in the audience last month. Good idea to get there a bit early!!!

P.S., Jammers, bone up on Louie’s tunes. Of course there are not many tunes that he did not play, so you have a pretty wide choice! Here are a few that you should know:
